Building Private Land Conservation in WA
Committee members Andy, Beth and Peter attended a wonderful two day symposium in mid September called Building Private Land Conservation in Western Australia – very relevant to our aims and ongoing project. Over two days many high profile speakers presented work being done around Australia by both the big players like TNC, AWC and Bush Heritage and smaller groups and individuals. A key take away was how backward our conservation coventant systems are in WA compared to NSW and Vic, something the WA Minister says is being worked on.
And almost every speaker highlighted how little of the WA wheatbelt is in secure reserves – reinforcing our efforts to date and the need to find ways to purchase additional blocks.
Beth and Peter gave short presentations, and joined a panel discussion with other smaller land holders.
