Cameras deployed & seedling measurements
Lewi Marr, Annie Leitch, Joe Porter and Ruby Albury recently visited the block with committee zoologist Andrew McCreery. The crew deployed motion cameras on active Malleefowl mounds, measured seedlings planted in 2023, and carried out drone mapping (see separate post).
The seedlings are thriving! Most showed significant growth since August 2024, with increases ranging from 17% to 168%. Of the 21 original monitored seedlings, 14 have survived – a promising result in a semi-arid landscape.
All three Malleefowl mounds showed signs of recent activity in preparation for the breeding season. Thank you to the crew for all of their help, and an extra thanks to Annie Leitch for taking the amazing photos included in this post.
