Naturalists Club Visit
We hosted seven members of the Naturalists Club of WA at the block for several days in late August. They were hoping to see lots of interesting flora and fauna and some of our special physical features, and also explore three nature reserves nearby.
The very rainy weather dampened the visit somewhat and altered the plans: for example their camping was done mainly in two bays of our farm shed! But we managed to see much of the land in several long breaks of finer conditions.
They appreciated joining the ecologists in the house in front of a warm fire in the evenings and sharing lots of stories. One member joined an early morning bird banding session, and they all searched for some of our rare flora, which included finding hundreds of examples of the rare Wongan Melaleuca (Melaleuca sciotostyla), some in flower. Jolanda has since forwarded us the start of a much needed flora species list.
And one couple collected lots of cans from the farmer’s old rubbish site and donated us the Containers for Change proceeds – very generous – twice over.
